Take God’s Medicine For Your Healing

My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body.”

Don’t Skip Your Spiritual Medicine

We wouldn’t skip brushing our teeth, showering or eating breakfast, would we? Well we shouldn’t skip God’s medicine (our spiritual medicine) either. Proverbs 4:20-22 is God’s prescription. He says pay attention to what I say. He wants us to listen carefully. Some translations say incline your ear to my sayings, meaning to lean in or focus on. We are to make God’s Word a priority in our lives. Don’t lose sight of it but read the Word every day, just like we would take medication prescribed by a doctor. Plant it deep in your heart, saying scriptures out loud even. What happens when we speak scriptures out loud? They bring life to those who find them and healing to their whole body.

Take Your Daily Dose

If a doctor gave you a prescription and said take this pill 3 times a day, yet you put it on the shelf and say I believe that’s good medicine. Although you never actually put the pill in your mouth and swallow it. Would it work for you? Absolutely NOT! You’ve got to take the medicine not just sit there admiring it in a bottle yet never taking your daily dose. Medicine works best when taken consistently not occasionally.

We are not only to read the Word in times of crisis. That’s like waiting until we collapse from hunger before we eat anything. We need to build up our strength daily with God’s medicine. Declare our main text over your body. Put your name in there…. make it personal. Even as you say it lift your hands and say, “Lord I’m taking my medicine today, it’s working in me NOW! It’s bringing Life, Strength and Health to my body in Jesus Name.”

Healing is the Children’s Bread

Mark 7:27 NKJV says,  But Jesus said to her, ‘Let the children be filled first, for it is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.'”

This was a strong statement that Jesus made to the woman that came to ask Him to heal her daughter. Jesus was telling her that she had no right to ask for healing, since she wasn’t Jewish. Wisely and remarkably, this woman humbled herself and pleaded for mercy instead of trying to demand her rights. She didn’t have any rights. And when Jesus had mercy on her, she returned home to find her daughter healed. She received based on Jesus, not on what she deserved. Jesus said that healing was the “children’s bread.” God would no more withhold healing from us than a father would withhold bread from his child.

Healing is in Christ’s atonement. Look at what 1 Peter says, talking about Jesus:

“who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.”1 Peter 2:24 NKJV

It says Jesus took stripes for your healing! It’s yours! It’s one of the things Jesus bought for you through His sacrifice!

And this verse says, “You were healed —past tense. It’s hard to argue with a past tense statement like that of 1 Peter 2:24. It’s taken from a prophecy Isaiah gave in Isaiah 53, which says:

But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.”Isaiah 53:5 NKJV

Jesus Suffered for Your Healing

Matthew 8 makes it clear that Jesus suffered for our healing – not only spiritual healing.

“When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: ‘He Himself took our infirmities And bore our sicknesses.'”Matthew 8:16-17 NKJV

Healing is the children’s bread. It’s your portion. It’s what God has given to you. If you’re a Christian (His child), healing belongs to you!

As you meditate on what we’ve shared today you’ll begin to realize, you don’t have to be sick. The Great Physician has given you a prescription and it’s in HIS Word. It is medicine to all your flesh. Faith comes by hearing God’s Word. When the Word is planted in the heart and spoken with the mouth, mountains move and bodies are healed. Take God’s medicine for your healing today!
