“Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away with; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away with.”
There was a movie back in 1993 based on the life of singer-song writer Tina Turner. It was entitled “What’s love got to do with it?” Well, when it comes to God, love has everything to do with it.
God’s love is eternal. The Bible tells us that God chose us. He died for us, every one of us. In Romans 8:38-39 Paul says that NOTHING can separate us from the love of God!
When we look at our main scripture, the first part of it says “love never fails”. The Greek translation for the word fails means, God’s kind of love will never fall, falter or perish. God’s love is a constant love (Jeremiah 31:3). It’s a never failing love.
Understanding True Love
Everything God does is prompted and influenced by love. God was motivated by love to save us (John 3:16). Any love we have for God is simply a response to His sacrificial love for us:
“This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins” – 1 John 4:10
Our human understanding of love is flawed, weak, and incomplete, but the more we look to Jesus, the better we understand true love.
If I ask how many of you know the song, “Yes, Jesus Loves Me”. I’m sure that all of you would say absolutely, I know that song. Yet the question is often asked, how can it be that God loves someone like, me? Wrong thinking is one of the biggest problems we can have with experiencing God’s love for us. He will not force His love on you. God is love (1 John 4:7-8), that’s His character! 1 John 4:19 says we love Him because He first loved us.
Love Is a Choice
Perhaps you feel like, I’ll wait till I get things together and then I’ll have a relationship with God because I’ve made a mess of my life. Condemnation is a feeling of being unfit for use. Let me tell you something, God hasn’t had anybody qualified working for Him yet! And He’s not afraid of messy places. If we look at the “Hall of Faith”, which is Hebrews chapter 11, we see that God took a thief and a liar and used him, that was Jacob (vs 21). He also used Moses who was a murderer (vs. 24). Rahab was a prostitute (vs. 31), yet she was used by God! Must I go on or do you get my point?
If you believe God is judging you based on your performance before He can love you, then you’ll never fully receive His love. Romans 5:8 says,
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
God’s love wasn’t based upon what we’ve done for Him or whether we deserved it, but upon His choice to love us. That’s it!!!
God’s Never Failing Love Brings Freedom
The love of God produces an attitude of faith. When you know how much God truly loves you it will cause you to stop asking God to heal you and instead it will allow you to realize that He already did it on the cross for you! You must receive it by faith. What is it that you are looking for today? Find it in the Word.
Falling in love with God will give you a desire to say no to the devil and the things in your life that are causing destruction. It will cause you to understand that you are valuable to Him (Psalm 139:17-18). His love produces a response in us. When you know that God loves you, you trust Him. That trust will produce obedience. We must have assurance in the love of God, knowing that He chose to love us and His love never fails.
