Guard Your Heart, Clear Out the Clutter

“For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.”

In the above verses Jesus was sharing with the disciples how His faith worked on the fig tree. There was no doubt, unbelief, or clutter whatsoever in the heart of Jesus when He spoke. Clutter means to fill or cover with scattered or disordered things that impede movement or reduce effectiveness. The Greek word for doubt is Diakrino meaning to separate, to prefer, or hesitate.

When God gives us a promise or instructions to do something, we must not let the devil talk us out of it or force us to quit or hesitate. The word doubt means to waver or to call into question the truth of something. The scripture says that no matter what mountain is set before us we can speak to it and if we stand strong, not questioning in our heart but believing the truth of God’s word then we will receive it when we pray.

Having a clutter of doubt in our heart will cause us to not receive God’s best for our lives. Doubt is a tactic of the enemy, and it is subtle just like him. It comes to steal, kill, and destroy. It will come as a thought. A thought like, I know that Jesus said that I’m healed but the doctor said this or that. Focusing on lingering symptoms in our body instead of the word of God also causes us to doubt. That Hesitation reduces the effectiveness of our healing.

Let me use this example. If you were having a dinner party and someone was supposed to bring a cake and you know that person is reliable and will do what they said, you wouldn’t keep questioning if they were bringing the cake, right? Well, if the God of the universe has told us that we were healed, which He did, we shouldn’t be wondering when or if it was going to happen. Instead, we should be expecting it to happen. And for us to say well, I’ve been waiting a long time for my healing to manifest, and the doctor said that my condition is getting worse not better that again, is the clutter of doubt in your heart. In verse 22 of this same account above, Jesus says, “have faith in God.”

Do you believe that God can be depended on to honor His promises? In Romans 4:17-21 Abraham held on to the promise of God by faith to conceive a child with his wife Sarah. I am sure that the enemy tried to clutter his heart with doubt and unbelief because of his age and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. Just because something seems dead, does not mean that it is dead to God.

When your heart is cluttered causing you to doubt, that means that something else has caused you to NOT believe what God has said. Like listening to what the doctor’s report is instead of God’s Word. The report may show the facts, but it is not the truth (Isaiah 53:1). The truth is, that God’s words are not to depart from the eyes of our heart or the focus of our thoughts (Proverbs 4:21). The way we do that is by taking those doubting thoughts of unbelief captive and casting them down (2 Corinthians 10:5). Saying NO you have no place in my heart or my mind. Healing takes place in our heart first, and then it filters throughout our entire body just like when we received salvation.

Let us guard our hearts and clear out the clutter!
