“Rejoice always and delight in your faith; be unceasing and persistent in prayer; in every situation [no matter what the circumstances] be thankful and continually give thanks to God; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.”
Jesus Is Our Example
Do you know that God wants to talk to you? Prayer is a powerful tool that connects us directly to God. It is a vital part of our lives as Christians and we have a great example.
Mark 1:35 NASB says, “In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was praying there.”
Even Jesus prioritized prayer, so why shouldn’t we?
Obedience and Worship
In 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 we see that as God’s children it is His will for us to rejoice in Him, to pray to Him and give thanks to Him. To pray without ceasing simply means that we should make prayer a regular habit and never stop doing it. Prayer is an act of worship. By praying we show God how much we adore Him. The word rejoice is a verb, describing the action of a person, place, or thing. So, the command to “rejoice always” is a command to act.
First Things First
What you do each day is not as important as what you do first each day. It is good for us to start our day with prayer. My husband and I have a morning routine of praying for an hour. Even if all you have is 5- or 10-minutes versus 1 hour, make the time to pray. Do not focus so much on the amount of time as much as the quality and consistency of praying. Prayer can be done as you get dressed for work or school. While you are in the shower or even while you’re driving to work. Your morning routine of prayer allows you to be spiritually dressed for the day.
Spending time with God prepares us for whatever the world may try to throw our way. The Bible teaches us that prayer strengthens our faith and offers us comfort during challenging times. When we spend time in prayer, we open ourselves up to God’s will and guidance in our lives.
Prayer That Gets Results
A word that came to me in my prayer time, along with this month’s topic was gratitude. In our communication with God, it is a suitable time to express our gratitude. Thankfulness for who God is. Thankfulness for His Word and the enormous price He paid.
Prayer that gets results are prayers based on the Word of God. Those words are then believed in the heart of the person praying them, and then they speak what is believed in their heart (Matthew 12:34). Not just saying a bunch of scriptures yet doubting their validity. I mean you draw a line in the sand and stand on the word of God no matter what you see with your natural eyes or no matter what a doctor may tell you. Do not get me wrong, I am not against doctors. I just put the Word of God first (Psalms 107:20) God’s Word has healing properties. It is medicine (Proverbs. 4:20-22) The word health in verse 22 means, health, healing, cure, medicine to all your flesh.
A friend of mine asked me one day about prayer. Not so much about how imperative it is but more importantly how to pray effectively. I told her that I pray the Word. I stand on scriptures like Mark 11:23 and Matthew 17:20 and speak over my body or a particular situation.
For example, “God your Word is manifested in my body causing any type of sickness, growth or tumor to disappear. Hyperparathyroidism is a thing of the past. I make a demand on my bones and joints to function properly in Jesus Name.”
The Bible tells us in Matthew 24:35 that heaven and earth will pass away, but God’s word will not pass away. Therefore, standing on the Word of God is more secure than standing on solid ground. God does want to talk to us, so let’s make the time to talk to HIM!
