A Lifestyle of Worship

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Why Do We Worship?

Worship is exalting Jesus and pure worship is intimate; it is also a matter of the heart. A quiet peaceful time to honor God. It’s private and purposeful. Worship blesses God and that is why we do it.

Worship blesses God but a lifestyle of worship is so much more. God is seeking you to have a relationship with Him.

When I was a student at Charis Bible College, I took a class entitled “Lifestyle of worship.” This class taught me that worship as a lifestyle has nothing to do with music. Worship is treated like an event by some; others only do worship on Sunday’s but it is so much more. Singing doesn’t make God love us more or love us less.

A True Worshipper

Jesus always deals with the heart, going from the inner most to the outer most. Everyone worships something, both believers and unbelievers. A true worshipper worships spirit-to-spirit, they have a “True” relationship with the Father. Living in this lifestyle of worship is daily.

The Greatest Revelation of Worship

As we read the account in John 4:1-26, we will see that Jesus gives one of the greatest revelations of worship and He gives it to one of the most unlikely candidates. She was a Samaritan, a woman of the streets yet Jesus values her so much that he shares this revelation. She was a non-covenant woman. If that doesn’t paint a picture of the Grace and Love of God, then I don’t know what does. Our pasts are behind us and God loves us; he wants us to know him as FATHER!

In John 4:12 Jesus meets this woman at her place of need. He continues and talks to her about drinking water, springing up from the inside out. That water will be internal, not external. In verses 16-18, He goes straight for the heart, the core of the issue. Giving her a Word of knowledge. Worship is about a relationship with a living God who wants to fill you to the place of overflowing where it will bubble up in you and flow from you. There is not a better way to worship than in verse 24. We can yield our will and choose to praise God with our voices, but worship happens in our spirit. That part of us that is one with God (1 Corinthians 6:17).

Heaven’s Perspective

When you have heaven’s perspective you hear and see differently. As a worshipper your entire life revolves around Jesus. We worship in spirit and in truth. Truth always trumps reality (1 John 5:6). God cares about us, He loves us and He will never leave us, that’s truth (1 Peter 5:7 NKJV). The reality is that I may not always feel these things, but they are still truth. The previous verse (1 Peter 5:6) talks of humbling ourselves before the Lord. Verse 7 speaks of how to do that. A person who is bearing care is walking in pride. You cannot be humble with worry and care in your life.

Make Room for God

Learning how to make room for God is important. God wants to fill us up, meaning in our soul. Wrap your minds around this: You are the dwelling place of God. Aren’t you so glad that God isn’t afraid of a messy place?

Who you worship is whom you will serve! Do you realize that the provision is already there before a problem even arises? (Psalm 23:5) We can have a continual feast, even when surrounded by our enemies. God is more than enough (Romans 8:32). That is a lifestyle of worship!

Worship needs to no longer be a place that we come to but it needs to be a place that WE ARE! Christ lives in us. Make room for God, listen and seek out those things that He has prepared for you. This Lifestyle of Worship is a matter of discipline. Let’s face it, a lack of discipline is one of the greatest obstacles we face in achieving our vision for life. We can talk all day long about what we want to accomplish, but that will not get us any closer to our goals. Our goal should be a lifestyle of worship to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
