“Yes, though I walk through the [deep, sunless] valley of the shadow of death, I will fear or dread no evil, for You are with me; Your rod [to protect] and your staff [to guide], they comfort me.”
Do you trust Jesus? I mean really trust Him, with your whole heart. Some of you may be asking, what that even means, to trust Him with my whole heart. Of course, I trust God. To trust the Lord with all your heart, you must totally rely on His promises, wisdom, power, and love to help you in every circumstance you face.
Human understanding is tainted by sin, limited wisdom, impulsive assumptions, and faulty emotions. This is why we should trust the Lord with all our heart. Let’s face it, we are not always right. Proverbs 14:12 reminds us of this: “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death?” Sin taints our understanding and leads us to destruction. Our knowledge is partial and incomplete (1 Corinthians 13:9 NLT). Should we base our understanding on what is partial, sinful, or destructive? Or should we trust in the God who is all-knowing, all-powerful, all-wise, loving and has only good plans to guide, satisfy, and establish us? (Isaiah 58:11 NLT)
In June of 2023 during my prayer time, I heard the Holy Spirit say that I needed to learn to trust Him. That I did not trust Him with my whole heart. Imagine my shock on hearing this. I was like you, yes God surely, I trust you. The Holy Spirit proceeded to say, “Then why are you going back and forth about leaving your last job? I told you that your season was over. Do you not trust me enough to provide for you? Exceedingly abundantly above all that you could ask, think, imagine and even greater than that? (Ephesians 3:20) Not just getting by or barely making it.” I said yes Lord. Even in learning to trust our Abba Father, He will meet us right where we are.
The Lord then led me to John 3:8, and asked this question, “Do you see those trees blowing outside?” I said yes because there was a slight breeze. “Well can you see the wind, or which way it’s coming from?” I said no. “But you know it’s there, right?” I said yes. “You may not be able to physically see how I’m going to provide for you but you must trust that I Will.”
God will supply all our needs whether we can see how He’s going to do it or not. It is all by faith. Faith is our positive response to what God has already done. Hebrews 11:6 tells us that without faith it is impossible to please God. Not that it is difficult, it is impossible.
Faith is believing that God is, not that He was. Believing that God can do something but not believing that He will do it is not faith.
Proverbs 3:5 tells us to “Trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not to our own understanding”. There is a supernatural wisdom and understanding that comes from God. We are supposed to rely on this God-given wisdom and understanding, not our own. We receive this from His word. As we dive into the word of God, we gain revelation. Although we can’t see it all with our physical eyes just like we can’t see the wind, we know that He’s there. We are to relax and concentrate on trusting Him.
